Protecting our European and global environment requires more than reducing GHG emissions. A circular economy needs to be established, where resources are used in the most efficient way and waste streams are reduced – including the use of organic waste for power generation. Equally important are the protection of our soil, water and clean air. Balancing those targets and creating a coherent reliable framework will be one of the key challenges for the implementation of the European Green Deal.
A sustainable future should include a sustainable but also globally competitive European industry. In addition to limiting pollutants, the EU should assist the European industry in becoming a global leader in sustainable solutions – not by pre-selecting “winners” but by supporting industries and technologies on their path towards sustainability.
