Research & Innovation Policy

R&I is essential for the European industry to maintain its technological leadership. Within the energy sector, the Strategic Energy Technology Plan helps shaping the European R&I energy agenda – which should then be implemented by Horizon Europe and other EU innovation supporting mechanisms – and coordinating efforts among Member States. EUTurbines advocates a comprehensive R&I framework, which encourages the development and demonstration of different solutions to build the integrated energy system of the future – including turbine-based solutions.

R&I support need to encourage the development and demonstration of different solutions to build the integrated energy system of the future – including turbine-based solutions.

Turbine manufacturers continuously adapt their technology to the evolution of the energy system. Turbines in solar thermal plants, using waste heat from industrial processes or operating 100% hydrogen are innovative solutions that still need improvements to unlock their full potential. While the technology is mostly there, further R&I support is needed to demonstrate the use of turbines in these new settings – which are key in a future integrated and decarbonised energy system.

EUTurbines is an active partner in the SET-Plan Implementation Working Groups for Energy Efficiency in Industry (Action 6) and Concentrated Solar Power. The association is also member of the Governing Board of the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Smart Networks for Energy Transition (ETIP SNET).
