The energy system is experiencing a fundamental transformation in Europe, quickly moving away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy sources. The future decarbonised energy system needs to build on different energy vectors – complementing renewable electricity with clean gases and heat –, as well as different generation and storage solutions that can ensure the reliability and flexibility of the system.
In combination with renewable gas or heat sources, gas and steam turbine technologies fulfil important requirements in an integrated and climate-neutral energy system, providing sustainable power and heat when needed.
