Energy efficiency boosters
Heat that would otherwise remain unused may be utilised to produce additional power thanks to steam – and other working fluids – turbines. Their use increases the energy efficiency of various applications, maximising the use of available and valuable resources and helping achieve the EU energy efficiency targets.
Steam turbines can use otherwise unused heat to produce additional power.
Steam turbines help boosting energy efficiency through the utilisation of otherwise wasted heat to produce additional power in:
- Gas power plants, where the heat from the gas turbine is transferred to the steam turbine thanks to the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) configuration
- Cogeneration plants, where the plant, in addition to power, delivers heat to district heating networks – maximising the use of resources and ensuring that the heat temperature is adequate for the network
- Energy intensive industries, where large amounts of unused process heat are available
