EEF Dinner Debate 2015

Title:
“Flexible back-up: power plants technology for the future energy mix”

Speaker:
Dr. Michael Ladwig, Director Scientific Collaboration Alstom Switzerland and Vice-President of EUTurbines

In his keynote speech Dr. Michael Ladwig presented the new role of thermal power generation as a flexible back-up for renewable energy sources in the future energy mix. Focus of his speech was the question, how energy delivery can be guaranteed by thermal power plants during time periods where renewables cannot deliver. To cope with the challenge of achieving the necessary flexibility, robustness and efficiency of the plants themselves, a suitable political framework and support is needed in terms of market incentives for investments in new flexible backup capacities, consistent environmental legislation and research funding.

With more than 50 participants from the EU institutions and other stakeholders the event was well-attended. For more details please refer to the handout, the presentation and some visual impressions (©European Energy Forum).
