Call for evidence on legislative initiative on CO2 transportation infrastructure and markets – our response
11 September 2025
EUTurbines welcomes the European Commission initiative aimed at developing competitive markets and transportation infrastructure for CO2 and agrees with the European Commission’s view that carbon management is a key element for the decarbonisation of Europe. In this context, the use of CO2 as a commodity, has a great potential as an enabler of industries and processes by contributing to a European circular economy, while preventing carbon emissions from being released into the atmosphere.
To realise this potential, a comprehensive infrastructure is needed to capture, liquefy, compress, transport and store or utilise the CO2. Turbomachinery-based technology such as compressors, provided by EUTurbines members, are essential components of this value chain and will play a critical role in enabling the mentioned processes.
Based on this, a flexible and technology open approach is essential to support the development of CO2 infrastructure and emerging markets. Harmonised and realistic environmental requirements will enable innovation and foster a functional cross-border market for CO2 compression technologies.
